Health: Children Health
Childhood vaccination rates in the United States have fallen to their lowest levels in decades, with recent surveys indicating that only 65% of children receive the recommended series of vaccines. The decline is most pronounced in states with high vaccine hesitancy, where misinformation campaigns and political polarization have eroded public trust. Health experts warn that lower immunization coverage increases the risk of outbreaks of preventable diseases such as measles and pertussis, which can disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. In Florida, gun violence continues to claim the lives of Black and Latino children at an alarming rate. Data from the Florida Department of Health show that in 2023, 48% of children who died from gun-related incidents were Black and 27% were Latino, far exceeding their share of the state’s population. The trend underscores the need for targeted interventions, including community-based violence prevention programs and stricter gun control measures.
